Afidnes or Kiourka is a community in North-Eastern Attica on the northern way out of the Athens basin with a population of approx. 2.500 residents. It is located on the Eastern foothills of Parnitha at an altitude of approx. 360 m and near the National Road Athens-Lamia. The community includes the beautiful forest of Agia Triada and the settlement of Ippokrateios Politia. The town of Afidnes was one of the 12 ancient cities of Attica and had played an important role in the armouring of the Attica basin, while it participated also in the famous battle of Marathon against the Persians. The territory is half-mountainous and is covered by harvests and woods. The residents are occupied in the industries and crafts of the region, as well as in agriculture. Today, several luxury houses exist in the area.
