Punta Gorda - The Hibiscus City

Punta Gorda, at the confluence of the Peace River and Charlotte Harbor, “The jewel of Southwest Florida,” is Charlotte County’s only incorporated city. When walking or bicycling along the water, through beautiful Gilchrist Park or the city’s late 19th Century residential Historic District with its magnificent restored Victorian and cracker-style homes one embarks on a journey back to a slower, gentler time, as its charm spills over into the downtown with its outstanding restaurants, art galleries, and shops.

Punta Gorda is a city of people. It is a magical place where residents who were born here and newcomers who have found out about its secrets mingle together as old friends. Small-town politics mixed with fishing stories, sailing race results, birdies made and missed, all blend together to make an evening in downtown. Our area has some of Florida’s finest deed-restricted subdivisions, several of which are located on a system of deep saltwater canals, with city-maintained concrete seawalls, that provide the homeowners with quick access to Charlotte Harbor, with over 100 square miles of open water, access to the Gulf of Mexico and the Intercoastal Waterway. Charlotte Harbor was recently selected by Sail Magazine as one of the top cruising destinations in the nation.
