Winter Park
Winter Park, Florida
Welcome to Engel & Völkers Winter Park.
The exclusive town of Winter Park in the metro Orlando area abounds with sparkling lakes and canals in an historic setting. Skirting the shoreline of these coveted lakes are breathtaking mansions of every description. Beautiful Winter Park includes Rollins College, Kraft Azalea Gardens, and the Isle of Sicily.
PARK AVENUE includes a variety of specialty shops, carrying everything from fine jewelry, antiques, wine and perfume to clothing, books, coffee and gifts. The Avenue is home to fine restaurants, art galleries and salons. Steps away from this luxury is the sophisticated and cozy Park Plaza Hotel. The village green, Central Park, offers a manicured and shady respite from a day's shopping.
From its humble beginnings as a log cabin situated on real estate between Lakes Virginia and Mizell in 1858, Winter Park has grown from a wilderness outpost in a pine forest to a luxurious haven for snowbirds - a charming town that is part of Greater Orlando in Central Florida. Thanks to Loring Augustus Chase, whose vision included a planned community with scenic, curving brick roads, charming Mediterranean-style architecture with houses in a park-like setting of Spanish-moss draped live oaks, all centered around a chain of 17 lakes can be enjoyed by a discriminating few.
Hannibal Square, just west of the village center is home to new development that includes a mixed use of condos, office, retail and upscale restaurants.
The Farmer's Market, now refurbished to accommodate large gatherings, was Winter Park's railroad station, and contains historic memorabilia depicting the city's roots and is part of the Winter Park Historical Association and Museum. The railroad to Winter Park was established in 1880. This opened new destination to visitors from the busy St. Johns River area to the east, and by 1882 the city of Winter Park was dedicated.
Rollins College sits on the shores of Lake Virginia at the southern end of Park Avenue. It was the first institute of higher learning built in the state. By 1890, the population of the town reached a thriving 600. Winter Park grew steadily despite a devastating freeze in 1895. When the 1924 real estate boom hit Florida, the population had blossomed to 2,360. Winter Park has been prospering ever since and is now one of Florida's most unique year-round destinations which has remained true to the plans of its founders.

For those of you who enjoy the water, the Winter Park Chain of Lakes are 2,781 acres running right through downtown Winter Park. Lakes Virginia, Osceola, Maitland, Mizell and Minneola are interconnected with narrow, but relatively deep channels. A public ramp located behind Rollins College provides boat access, but a ramp use permit is required from the City of Maitland or Winter Park. Water skiing and sightseers in pontoon boats may give anglers the illusion that the chain is not a good fishery, but Largemouth Bass, Sunshine Bass, and Crappie populations are decent and can provide good angling in an urban setting. Lake Virginia is best for Sunshine Bass and Crappie; Osceola and Maitland for Largemouth Bass.
