Peißenberg is a market town in the Upper Bavarian district of Weilheim-Schongau. The market town of Peißenberg lies between the Hoher Peißenberg and the Guggenberg on the left bank of the Ammer, in the middle of the Pfaffenwinkel region in the Alpine foothills. In the course of industrialization in the 19th century, Peißenberg developed into a mining village through the extraction of pitch coal, still visible today in the many adits and in the New and Old spoil heaps. The town keeps the memory of the mining era alive, among other things, by establishing the Mining Museum. Today, Peißenberg has a well-developed infrastructure, so that you can find everything for daily needs here, including medical care with doctors and a pharmacy. Peißenberg, with around 12,600 inhabitants, offers primary, lower secondary, intermediate and private schools, as well as several day-care centers and kindergartens. The grammar school is located in nearby Weilheim and can be reached quickly by bus and train via the centrally located station. Peißenberg is connected to Munich by regional rail (Regionalbahn/Oberlandbahn), with Munich Central Station reachable in about an hour. Children and young people have plenty of space and fun in Peißenberg: in addition to 3 kickabout pitches, 4 action areas, a bocce court, a disc golf facility and 7 public playgrounds, there is also a wide range of leisure activities such as the Marcello Fun Arena indoor playground, the Rigi Rutsch’n or the ice rink. Access is via the B472 bypass road with connections to the B17 toward Füssen and Schongau, as well as to the B2 toward Munich and Garmisch-Partenkirchen. The A95 motorway junction at Sindelsdorf can be reached after 30 km in about 25 minutes’ drive.
