Hohenpeißenberg, idyllically situated at the foot of the eponymous 988-meter-high Hohen Peißenberg, lies in the heart of the picturesque Pfaffenwinkel and is considered one of the most scenic communities in Bavaria. With just under 4,000 inhabitants, the town offers not only a familial atmosphere but also perhaps the most beautiful panoramic view in Bavaria. The panorama stretches from the Chiemgau Alps across the Karwendel and Wetterstein mountains to the Allgäu Alps. The pilgrimage church Mariä Himmelfahrt on the Hohen Peißenberg is a popular excursion destination and a well-known pilgrimage site. Additionally, the mountain hosts a meteorological observatory – the oldest mountain weather station in the world – as well as a transmission tower. The main town is located on the left bank of the Ammer, which meanders south through the impressive Ammer Gorge. Hohenpeißenberg offers its residents excellent infrastructure: from a swimming lake and several sports facilities to shopping options like a Netto supermarket, bakery, and butcher, as well as a pharmacy, doctor's office, hairdresser, and banks, everything is available. For the youngest residents, there are two kindergartens and a primary school. The train station in the south of the town provides an hourly train connection to Munich. The nearby B 472 bypass road allows quick access to the cities of Weilheim (about 20 minutes) and Peißenberg (about 10 minutes). The popular hiking and leisure regions around Füssen, Garmisch-Partenkirchen, and the Ostallgäu are also reachable in just about an hour by car. The surroundings of Hohenpeißenberg offer numerous opportunities for nature lovers and leisure activities. A highlight is the Stiefelweiher near Hetten, located slightly outside, which is perfect for relaxing hours in nature.
