"Spoilt for Choice": Buying Property in Tyrol

This well-known saying is especially true when it comes to Tyrol.

With its countless beautiful regions offering breathtaking views and endless activities in both summer and winter, choosing just one location can be incredibly challenging. A good real estate agent, such as Engel & Völkers, can be a great help when searching for a holiday home, second residence, or retreat for you and your family.

Holiday Region Imst

Nestled at the foot of the Lechtal Alps, the holiday region centred around the charming town of Imst offers an impressive array of vacation activities. Visitors are instantly captivated by the panoramic view of this historic town. Situated at 827 metres above sea level, Imst boasts an exceptional number of annual sunshine hours. The town is also known for its authentic, charming lifestyle and rich cultural offerings, including numerous galleries and museums. Those visiting during the carnival season can experience the famous Schemenlaufen, a traditional festival renowned far beyond Tyrol.

The Imst holiday region encompasses nine villages, each with its own unique charm.

From Roppen, it’s just a short drive to the Area 47 adventure park, while Schönwies features a natural toboggan run and a geological trail.

The Hoch-Imst ski and hiking area is a year-round destination. Cable cars transport visitors and athletes to some of the most picturesque slopes and trails.

The climbing centre also welcomes enthusiasts throughout both winter and summer. Additionally, the region offers exciting activities such as hiking, mountain biking, cycling, climbing, and skiing, ensuring something for everyone.

The Ötztal Valley – For Those Seeking Superlatives

Home to Austria’s highest mountain, the country’s most powerful waterfall, the largest glacier area in the Eastern Alps, and the highest church village in Austria, the Ötztal Valley is a destination of extraordinary highlights. Stretching 65 km southward from Imst, this valley separates the Ötztal Alps from the Stubai Alps and is famous as the discovery site of the glacial mummy “Ötzi.”

The Ötztal Valley offers an endless array of leisure activities, including hiking, mountain biking, mountaineering, climbing, tobogganing, skiing, and even rafting. Its remarkably dry and mild climate not only creates ideal conditions for outdoor activities but also supports the growth of a wide variety of fruit.

With around 250 peaks over 3,000 metres, the valley boasts a spectacular alpine backdrop, dominated by the Wildspitze, Tyrol’s highest mountain, standing at an impressive 3,768 metres.

Kühtai

Nestled at 2,017 metres on the Kühtai Saddle, which connects the Sellrain Valley with the Ötztal Valley, Kühtai is Austria’s highest ski resort, offering an extensive winter sports area. The settlement’s history dates back to the 13th century, when a mountain farm, or "Schwaighof," was established here. In the 17th century, it was transformed into a hunting lodge, which later became a castle hotel.

The ski area reaches altitudes of up to 2,500 metres and remains accessible in summer via a mountain cable car, bringing hikers into the high alpine world of peaks. Kühtai is also home to the Knappenweg trail, which highlights the mining history of the region.

At the end of August, visitors can experience the annual Ötztal Cycle Marathon, a must-see event for cycling enthusiasts.

The Pitztal Valley

The Pitztal Valley leads towards the Wildspitze, standing at an impressive 3,768 metres, the highest mountain in North Tyrol. It is flanked by the breathtaking Kaunergrat Nature Park to the west and the Geigenkamm range to the east, which forms the border with the Ötztal Valley.

This region offers a snow-sure glacier ski area and stunning waterfalls, making it a favourite among nature lovers, winter sports enthusiasts, and mountain hikers. The ski area guarantees excellent snow conditions and powder slopes well into May. In summer, visitors can enjoy scenic hikes to the Söllberg Waterfall and Stuiben Waterfall.

The highlight of the Pitztal Valley, however, takes place in July with the Trail-Maniak ultramarathon. Covering 95 kilometres and 6,500 metres of elevation, it is one of the toughest ultramarathons in Europe.

Popular outdoor activities in the Pitztal include hiking, mountain biking, climbing, skiing, and cross-country skiing, making it a paradise for adventure seekers.
