The parish of Benfica is today a vast urban and populous cluster that harmoniously coexists with the old and the modern, as well as the rural and the urban. It encompasses about two-thirds of the Monsanto Forest Park, also known as the Lung of Lisbon. The parish is divided among the main neighborhoods of the parish: Boavista, Charquinho, Pedralvas, Calhariz Velho, Calhariz Novo, and Santa Cruz. It is precisely in the Santa Cruz neighborhood that the headquarters of one of the oldest clubs in the city, the Clube Futebol Benfica (“FóFó”), has been located since 1895, with several national titles in roller hockey and field hockey. Most of the monuments in Benfica are remnants of the old estates, including: Chafariz de Benfica, Igreja de Nossa Senhora do Amparo, Igreja do Calhariz, Silva Porto Park, Portas de Benfica, Quinta do Peres, Quinta da Granja, the Section of the Águas Livres Aqueduct, Vila Ana. A parish with a high concentration of services, schools ranging from basic to higher education, traditional commerce, shopping centers, public transport, and easy access to all parts of the city, including Silva Porto Park, Benfica Market, Baldaya Palace, Colombo Shopping Center, Quinta da Granja, and the Higher School of Education.
