This small municipality lies on the Piedmont shore of Lake Maggiore in a hilly position overlooking the green shores of the lake. Moving on to the medieval heart of the town, we discover Piazza del Popolo, with its old-style houses and the pier, on which stands a small lighthouse, a favourite spot for tourists. However, the most important and fascinating monument in Arona is undoubtedly the colossus of St. Charles Borromeo, which, with a height of about 35 metres, ranks second among the tallest statues in the world, preceded only by the Statue of Liberty.
