Castelveccana is located on the Lombardy shore of Lake Maggiore, halfway between Laveno and Luino. Castelveccana offers all essential services and wonderful views of Lake Maggiore, as well as beautiful beaches, including the famous Fornaci beach in the hamlet of Caldè: a beach and area with evocative, unspoilt surroundings, where a cycle path is planned for the future. The hamlet of Caldè has a railway station providing connections between Switzerland and Milan. Nearby is Luino, with all its attractions and services. Luino is rich in history and culture, with a strong literary tradition. It is famous for its magnificent new lakeside promenade, featuring two play areas, a walkway suspended over the lake and a beach, “Le Serenelle”, recently certified as having excellent bathing-water quality. Another beach, a short distance from Luino, is located in the hamlet of Colmegna, famous for its crystal-clear waters. The historic centre is delightful, with uphill lanes, Renaissance and Baroque palazzi, arcaded inner courtyards, artisan workshops and shops. One of the main attractions is the Wednesday market, one of Luino’s most important events: a genuine weekly fair with more than 350 stalls lining the streets of the town centre and the lakeside promenade. Water-sports enthusiasts can join the Alto Verbano Sailing Association, while the extensive service operated by Lake Maggiore Navigation provides connections to the Borromean Islands and nearby Switzerland. Not far from Luino, in Maccagno, lies the small Forcora ski resort.
