Campolide was once good farmland, with several estates. Along the whole hillside there were olive groves, orchards, and vineyards. Today these hills “hide” a quiet, safe neighborhood, with houses mostly from the 1970s. Almost the entire area is made up of apartment buildings, but there is a very interesting zone (the Calçada dos Mestres neighborhood) overlooking the Águas Livres Aqueduct, where we find semi-detached houses with yards. There is the movement of those who leave in the morning and return at night, but also of those who spend their day here: for a trip to the corner grocery, or to Amoreiras for other kinds of shopping. Most commerce is concentrated in this center, which some years ago was the largest in the city. Although it is a calm neighborhood, all the traffic coming from the city center passes through here, heading either south or to the Cascais line (and vice versa in the morning).
