Sint-Martens-Latem is a small, rural and residential town, divided in two Leievillages Latem and Deurle. Culture and nature go hand-in-hand in this town. The fame of Sint-Martens-Latem as an artists village is well known, both national as well as international.

The district is situated in the Leievalley in the province of East-Flanders, between Gent and Deinze. The area is mostly flat, except for the forested sand dunes which were formed by sand in the ice ages and they can reach a height of almost 20 m locally. This dune chain that connects Sint-Martens-Latem with Deurle, is build-on with villas, but at a very low compactness. Neighboring villages of Sint-Martens-Latem are Deinze, Gent, De Pinte and Nazareth. Since 1977 Sint-Martens-Latem and Deurle form 1 town.

The village has a lot to offer to its occupants via nature and culture. Besides the always returning Leie are there the Leiemeersen, a recognized nature reserve of 16 ha, the woods on the river dunes, the lanes, the golf course of 39 ha, de protected village sites.
