Ever dreamt of owning a commercial lodge in Africa?
2 years ago Engel & Völkers Hoedspruit was approached by Dutch clients to find them a lodge in the area which they could lease for a period of 2 years with the option to buy. Property sales advisor Cindy Hopkins of Engel & Völkers Hoedspruit knew just the right property for her clients. A 50 bed commercial lodge in the Guernsey Private Nature Reserve which was in need of attention and had recently been placed on the market for sale.
Background to that are South Africa’s visa requirements for foreigners who wish to invest in South Africa. Currently the requirements are:
1. Register a business in South Africa 6 month prior to entering the country
2. Submit a business plan
3. Invest the amount of ZAR 2,5 million over a time frame of 2 years
4. Create 5 permanent jobs for African staff over a time frame of 2 years
All done it was a win win situation for the owner of the lodge and the Dutch family who arrived in South Africa on the 31.July 2012 and opened business to their first paying guests on the 1. October 2013.
The below link shows the arrival of the family in South Africa and the challenges faced before opening their doors to the public. The short film has since featured twice on Dutch Television “The Nederlands 2” on a program called “Ik vertrek” as well as on a Belgian TV channel.
Heike Scholten was proud to tell Engel & Völkers Hoedspruit that since the program was broadcasted she has received more than 500 emails of congratulations and enquiries and bookings have been placed for 2015 already.
