Immediately on the outer boundaries of the city are some highly desirable residential areas. Probably one of the best known is the exclusive luxury residential area of Son Vida, which was developed in the 1960’s, and features some of the island’s top golf courses, beautiful properties, and prestigious hotels including the five star deluxe Castillo Son Vida hotel.
Today, Son Vida remains one of the key residential areas in this region with multi million euro properties like villas and mansions in top locations either overlooking the Bay of Palma or the famous Son Vida golf course. This area has always been popular with local, Spanish Mainland and foreign residents who use their properties either as holiday homes or as permanent residents and is also very popular with families because of the concentration of some of the top local and international schools located here.
Further out new transport connections has increased access to some villages close to Palma including Genova, Establiments, Esporlas and Puigpunyent, which feature traditional fincas in a countryside setting within 10-20 minutes drive from Palma.
