The Saturday night, nearest to Saint Lawrence day (the 10th of August), the traditional fireworks display “Castell de L’Olla” takes place at the L’Olla beach in Altea. Every year the brotherhood of the same name, from this Alicante town, organizes this show that brings over 50.000 people to the Mediterranean eager to watch this incredible play of light, fireworks and music, a combination of arts which also involve dance and other performing arts, as well as exhibitions.
With close to 30 years of history on it’s back, this musical pyrotechnic event has gained a significant reputation among residents and visitors of the Valencian Community, contributing decisively to revive the town of Altea as a Mediterranean cultural center.
In recent years the “Castell de l’Olla” has been adding new elements, making it an outstanding tourist attraction bringing many boats in the Altea bay to admire this national fireworks calendar event. The importance of this traditional event was recognized with the distinction of Tourism Merit Award in the 1999 Golden Edition category, granted by the Costa Blanca Tourism Board.
