Inside Engel & Völkers Sara Grech: Interview with Antonella Sciberras

Antonella Sciberras

How did you start working for Engel & Völkers Sara Grech?

I thought I had it all together when I graduated from University and got a full time job. After a while working as an employee I felt that I was repressing my inner ambitions to become an entrepreneur. I never thought it was fair that someone determines how much I am worth, I always felt like I was working hard to help build someone else’s dream and not mine.

From a very young age I have always wanted to become an entrepreneur; however, I could not find the right opportunity.

I came across an Engel & Völkers Sara Grech online advert and got more familiar with the company. I also met a friend of mine who worked as an agent for the same company and when he explained the politics of the business I was very excited to hear how differently they work from other real estate agencies on the island. I found out more and decided to apply for the post. I met Semira Grech who explained the business strategy for each Agent within Engel & Völkers Sara Grech, and I became excited to hear about their setup. She explained how I could be independent, start my own business without a capital investment whilst being provided with the right support and resources, and that is when I realised that it was a unique opportunity that I could not miss!

What makes your job so exciting?

My job is exciting because I work independently, I work with people from different cultures and backgrounds, and I am outside of the office most of the time, inspecting and viewing property… I am the type of person that if I had to be in a routine job I could get bored very easily. The dynamism of this job makes my day very exciting and unpredictable, and makes me look forward to get to the office every day!

What is the secret of your success?

There is no secret to success! I believe that with hard work, motivation and support from a respected global brand, one can achieve his/her goals.

What are the peculiarities of the Maltese real estate market?

Malta is located in the centre of the Mediterranean therefore it attracts people from all over Europe as it is easy to travel from one place to another. It also offers 320 days of sunshine, clear Mediterranean water, history, good food and great entertainment. Due to its size, Malta is perfect for people who are always on the go and can get to their destination very quickly! With regards to real estate, Malta offers various types of properties such as apartments, bungalows, villas, terraced houses etc; however, properties that are unique to Malta and rich with history are the traditional Townhouses, Houses of Character and Palazzos. When restored and renovated these properties become a true gem!
