Local and foreign investment continues to pour into Mallorca with a clutch of new “boutique” hotel openings this year and more on line over the next couple of years. The island continues to lead in the Mediterranean with an eclectic range of quality hotels aimed at the independent traveller looking for a hotel experience offering quality, character and atmosphere.
The first two openings of the year will be in old town Palma opening up the choice of boutique hotels in one of the Mediterranean’s most elegant cities:

Opening on Palma’s elegant Borne Boulevard, Boutique Hotel Can Alomar is a complete refurbishment of a magnificent 19th century Baroque style building located on Palma’s elegant Borne Boulevard and above some of the city’s top designer boutiques. It is the third hotel opening for Miguel Conde and his architect wife in just under two years with Can Cera, a 17th century “palacio” and the Boutique Hotel Calatrava (opened last April on the outskirts of Palma’s old town overlooking Palma Bay). The hotel features 16 suites, a restaurant, a bar, roof terrace pool and solarium and the Can Alomar Mirador at the top of the building with views across the city.
Sa Posada de Terra Santa, Palma Old Town - Summer 2014.
This hotel takes the name of its street location and is a major refurbishment of a 16th century building which dates back to 1576 and was the original headquarter of Curia Baronial de Bunyoli (an important noble family) in the Sa Gerreria area of Palma’s old town. Sa Posada de Terra Santa will be a four star boutique hotel with 27 rooms and a spa. The architect has combined the traditional historic features of the building with clean modern lines restoring the building’s original Gothic arches and a large window from the Renaissance period.
Park Hyatt Mallorca at Canyamel (north east Mallorca) 2016
This development, which started at the end of 2013, will cover an area of 5 hectares in Canyamel at the north east of the island. The hotel will be a five star superior category and feature 55 villas and 16 suites. It is the collaboration between the local Cap Vermell Group and Hyatt Hotels and is scheduled to open in 2016.
