repulse_bayIf your knowledge about Hong Kong is limited to the fact that it is a skyscraper-laden concrete jungle, then allow us to present to you, Repulse Bay, the ‘Riviera of Hong Kong.’

Located far from the madding crowds, on the Southside of Hong Kong, is a lush, oceanfront oasis of calm in the form of Repulse Bay, an upscale neighborhood.  Spanning a broad area from Wong Nai Chung Gap Road until Chung Hom Kok beach, crescent shaped Repulse Bay is dotted with varied dwellings many of which offer magnificent views of the beach and the tranquil bay. Repulse Bay exudes a year round resort-like feel, and it is hardly surprising, that this stunning area is the favored abode of the who’s who of Hong Kong.

The housing options in Repulse Bay include spacious family-sized luxury apartments, stand-alone villas and town houses, though the area does host some smaller one and two bedroom apartments as well.  As for transport links, Repulse Bay is not accessible by MTR but the area has excellent taxi, public bus and minibus connections to the rest of Hong Kong Island and even Kowloon. As a result, the pristine beachfronts of Repulse Bay and surrounding verdant hiking trails are easily accessible from all over Hong Kong.

In fact, if you grab a ride aboard an express bus service from Exchange Square in Central, you can expect to arrive on the powder-sand beaches in and around Repulse Bay in a mere 15 minutes. It’s no wonder then that this beachfront paradise with its many public access amenities is a favored summertime haunt of many Hong Kongers.

Repulse Bay’s main shopping destination is the Repulse Bay arcade; a shopping arcade attached to a popular luxury development. The arcade aims to cater to every need of the area’s residents and features a well-stocked supermarket, (Marketplace by Jason’s). Also onsite are two restaurants (the Verandah and Spices), coffee shops, various lifestyle, clothing and bookstores, spas and medical practices, two kindergartens (Southside and Woodland’s Montessori Preschool) and even a tutoring center.

Repulse Bay is situated within the catchment area for the Bradbury (primary) and South Island (secondary) schools of the ESF network. This scenic area also hosts the lower and upper primary sections of the reputed, Hong Kong International School within its folds. The school’s middle and senior sections are located within easy access at Tai Tam.
