Top 5 Coffee Shops in Central and Sheung Wan

Hong Kong an Asian city, where hot lemon tea is pretty much the favored drink of choice has in recent years nurtured, a burgeoning coffee café culture. So much so that you can expect to have a perfectly brewed cup of coffee at the many delightful coffee shops littered all over the city.

However, a major concentration of these coffee shops is located in Hong Kong’s erstwhile dried seafood and Chinese medicine district, Sheung Wan. Situated on the western side of Hong Kong Island, Sheung Wan is a rapidly gentrifying enclave, home to many hip restaurants, fashion forward stores and of course, coffee shops.

Engel &Völkers, in fact, are housed at an office within the heart of Sheung Wan. Hence we frequent the various coffee shops located in the vicinity. Listed here are some of our favorites but you perhaps need to venture out for yourself and see if the coffee repertoire of Sheung Wan meets your expectations for a perfect ‘cup of joe.’

Common Ground

Located in the vicinity of coveted residential developments like Centrestage and Centrepoint, and arts hub PMQ, Common Ground situated along a stretch of stone steps in a quiet end of Sheung Wan is a homey, quaint café. Untitled

The brainchild of two sets of siblings, twins Josh and Caleb Ng and Sean and Elias Lam of Protest Design Co, Common Ground, exudes a distinct laid back California vibe. Not simply a café, Common Ground operates as a trendy boutique as well.

The café hosts a small open kitchen and features rustic, mismatched tables and chairs. A plethora of plants potted in jars forms part of the décor while knick-knacks and fashion accessories for sale are displayed on the wooden shelves.

The specialty beverage at Common ground is not a coffee, but a rich, salted hot chocolate, which perfectly complements the food menu of hearty comfort, eats like creamy scrambled eggs and more.
