One of the most picturesque corners in Florence is Erta Canina. The name comes from the strong slope that leads from the Porta San Miniato, near the shore of the Arno, to Viale Galileo, almost in front of the basilica of San Miniato in Monte. A poet once wrote a short story “Canina for those who climb the road”, describing the strong climb. This area of the city was also very popular and sought after by painters like Borrani, Signorini Lega. Here you can admire villas built in different centuries with their gardens on this ridge, still breathing the air of the past.
