Easter Events

procesiónHoly Week on Mallorca is filled with traditional rituals and processions to mark the Passion of Christ. There are many processions around Mallorca on Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. The most important ones take place in the town of Palma where thousands line the street of Palma to watch the solemn “Crist de la Sang”  on Thursday 2nd. On Friday the 3rd the “Holy Burial” procession takes place and on Easter Sunday the “Procession of the Meeting. “

Itinerary

Holy Thursday– April 2nd: Procession of “El Sant Crist de La Sang”

Departure: from the Anunciació Church at 7pm
Itinerary: Plaza de l’Hospital, Costa de la Sang, Oms, Sant Miquel, Plaza Major, Plaza Marques del Palmer, Colom, Plaza de Cort, Palau Reial, Plaza de la Seu and entry to la Seu.

 

Good Friday -April 3rd: Procession of “El Sant Enterrament”

The re-enactment of the Passion of Christ takes place on the steps of Palma Cathedral at noon.
Departure: from the Basílica of Sant Francesc at 7:30pm
Itinerary: Plaza de Sant Francesc, C/. del Convent de Sant Francesc, Plaza Santa Eulàlia, Cadena, Plaza de Cort, Colom, Bosseria, Galera, Corderia, Quartera, Esparteria, Mercadal, Ferreria, Porta de Sant Antoni, Socors and entry to the Església de Ntra. Sra. del Socors. Straight after the Seguidamente “Solemne Ceremonia del Santo Enterramiento” will take place in the church.

 

Easter Sunday- April 5th: The joyful ‘Procession of the Meeting‘ marks the reunion of the resurrected Jesus with his mother. A group of men carry a statue of Jesus towards a group of women bearing a statue of the Virgin Mary.

 

“Angel Sunday” – April 12th: The traditional “Domingo del Ángel” in Palma is celebrated at the Castle of Bellver, the tradition tells us that the last “empanadas” (pies) are eaten and in theory this is the way Easter is ended. The most representative act is the descent of the stroll of the Angel which is accompanied by animation, large headed figures and giants. You can bring your own food or you can buy food at the venue. It is a great place to go with children as there are many activities for them and if it is a sunny day it is a great opportunity to have a wonderful time.

 

Easter Tournament 2015 at Golf Son Muntaner Saturday April 4th
