Laveno and its submerged Crib.

Laveno and its submerged Crib. On Christmas Eve, in 1975, a group of divers placed inside a natural cave an about one meter high statue representing the “Christ of the Abyss.”
For three consecutive years it was decided to celebrate Christmas Eve with this particular ceremony. An impressive ceremony for a few close friends, which was later extended to others, creating a committee of passionate supporters, divers and non, called “Friends of the Crib”.
In this way was born the current “Submerged Crib”, dropped for the first time in 1979 in the Gulf of Laveno Mombello. It was immediately a huge success and to the first statues were added in subsequent editions the ones of the Magi (with camels), the shepherds, the angels, ….. for a total of 42 statues.
Year after year the ceremony is repeated with great success. The crib is visible From the beginning of the Advent until Epiphany.
