Malta has been named the 37th happiest country in the world by a UN-backed study.
The annual World Happiness Report said Switzerland was the happiest country ahead of Iceland and Denmark, with Togo the least happy.
Malta fared better than Italy, Japan and Portugal but was ranked well behind Australia, Canada, New Zealand and Britain.
The report is based on GDP per capita, social support, healthy life expectancy, freedom to make life choices, generosity, perception of corruption and a final indicator labelled ‘everything else’.
