My dream job: real estate broker!

“You must love people,” explains Patrick Schuppan, Engel & Völkers Area Manager, in response to being asked about the secret of successful real estate brokers. If you want to be successful in the real estate business, you must, above all, be empathetic and have a good nose for what demanding customers want. Here you can find out how to obtain the necessary know-how and which members of the Engel & Völkers network are the most successful:

My dream job: real estate broker!“I have always loved brokering high-quality real estate and helping people make their (living) dreams come true,” admits Sven Odia, Chairman of the Executive Board of Engel & Völkers AG. Sven Odia has been working for Engel & Völkers for almost 17 years. After his training as property manager, he brokered high quality real estate on Mallorca and, in 1999, acquired one of the first licenses on the sunny island. Since 2014, he has been managing Engel & Völkers AG together with Christian Völkers. What advice would he offer to prospective real estate consultants? “First and foremost, you should find your calling, as this will allow you to do your job with a passion. If you want to be successful, you must also be prepared to take risks from time to time to advance your career,” reveals Odia.

New consultants receive all-round support during training. Standardised onboarding plans facilitate the step-by-step entry into the real estate business. “Our main goal is the success of our consultants, which is why we do everything we can to help our partners get off to a good start,” Patrick Schuppan continues. The Engel & Völkers brand stands for reliability, discretion and market expertise – this also makes it possible for career changers to gain a foothold in the real estate market and establish important contacts. “The brand opens doors,” explains Sylvia van Eesbeeck, a career changer who obtained her broker’s license seven years ago and is now successfully brokering high-quality real estate to demanding customers in Nuremberg.

Prospective real estate consultants can obtain the necessary know-how in the in-house academy. Here, the employees – whether brokers, license partners or assistants – have the opportunity to gain in-depth knowledge on real estate marketing, property evaluation or farming. “We are offering our seminars in more and more places around the world, such as Dubai or Rome. In the past year we trained more than 3,300 participants – of which 70 percent were outside of Germany,” says Michael Defland, Head of System & Academy.
