One of the liveliest squares in the city is definitely Piazza Santa Croce, is accessed from Via dei Benci, Via Magliabechi, Via San Giuseppe, Via dei Pepi etc. with in the center the magnificent basilica of Santa Croce, considered the most beautiful Italian Gothic church. One of the masterpieces of Santa Croce and of the finest examples of the Renaissance is still the chapel of the Pazzi, original work of Brunelleschi that began three years before he died. During the Renaissance, the Piazza Santa Croce was the favorite place for jousting tournaments and has always been very much alive as it is today. Undisputed meeting place for young people, the square is used for special events, concerts, markets etc. Nearby there are shops, bars, restaurants, offices, and is just a few steps from the Arno river, Ponte Vecchio, Piazza della Signoria, Piazza della Repubblica, Piazza del Duomo.
