Epiphany: Florence recalls the Renaissance Cavalcade of the Three Wise Men

Even this year the Cavalcade of the Three Wise Men returns to Florence, the traditional appointment with the historic parade of the Epiphany. Like every year the parade will take place in the early afternoon of January 6th, departing from the Pitti Palace, passing from Piazza della Signoria and then arriving in Piazza del Duomo, in the area formerly known as the Heaven. A parade of men in tights with Renaissance costumes will travel the streets of the city followed by the long-awaited Three Wise Men on horseback dressed with great pomp.

The Cavalcade of the Magi is an ancient Florentine festival that dates back to the Renaissance, the confraternity of the Magi used to organize every three years a solemn procession, which sought to recall the arrival of the three in the small Bethlehem, in search of the King Messiah. Some important components of Medici family were part of the Three Wise Men Society and for this with their expulsion from Florence in 1494, the initiative was suppressed and restored only later.
