The listed moated castle Kasteel van Olsene is currently for sale through Engel & Völkers in Belgium for 25 million euros. This luxurious property lies in the municipality of Olsene, around 70 kilometres west of Brussels. “The castle dates back to the 19th century and was extensively renovated between 2004 and 2012. It is this combination of historic architecture and contemporary comfort that gives the property its special charm,” said Philippe Herbert, Managing Partner of Engel & Völkers Gent-Centrum.
The Belgian architect Louis Minard (1801-1875) was responsible for the design of Kasteel van Olsene. He built the square moated castle with its four corner towers in 1854 in the Neo-Renaissance style, drawing on features of medieval castles and Western European churches. Prior to this, in the 11th century, a castle known as Hof Ter Wallen stood on the same spot. The current property is surrounded by a 15-hectare park with a great diversity of plants, paths and outbuildings. It is accessed along an 850-metre long driveway lined with deciduous trees. The castle itself is reached by means of an arched bridge across the moat.
