“We are practically bursting with pride,” enthused Ninon Völkers, President of the E&V Charity. Pupils who joined the first year to ever attend the “École privée Engel & Völkers”, the primary school of the E&V Charity in Togo, all passed their final primary school exam known as CEPD in the summer with excellent grades. Eight of them did so well in fact that they rank among the ten top-achieving schoolchildren in the entire region of Agou. The most able pupil in the year is Nicole Abra Wega. Nicole is an orphan who lives with her aunt, and without the E&V primary school she would not have had the chance to receive an education.
“The marvellous results achieved by the children in our school are a reminder to us of just how important it is to be constructing a secondary school. Until the building is completed, the pupils are attending the public college, which means they not only have a longer journey to school but also have 115 pupils in their class,” said Ninon Völkers. “We want to continue supporting our children at all costs, which is why they still receive meals at the school, as well as additional lessons twice a week. We plan to have finished our own college by the beginning of the next school year. We have already found a vacant plot right next to our primary school building.”
