After around two-and-a-half years of construction, Quantum Immobilien AG and Engel & Völkers AG held the topping out ceremony for their joint venture new development in Hamburg’s HafenCity on 5 September 2017. “We are well on schedule and confident that the Engel & Völkers headquarters and rental apartments will be ready for occupancy by the beginning of 2018, with the handover of the freehold apartments to their new owners from the second quarter of 2018,” said Philipp Schmitz-Morkramer, Founder and CEO of Quantum Immobilien AG.
Over 400 guests attended the topping out ceremony, including managers from Quantum Immobilien AG and Engel & Völkers, in addition to well-known personalities and owners of the exclusive new apartments in the “STRANDHAUS by Richard Meier”. Dr. Dorothee Stapelfeldt, Hamburg Senator at the State Ministry for Urban Development and Housing, was also present, and gave a speech in which she paid particular honour to the special location of this new development in the HafenCity.
Three-part new building complex
“I am delighted that we were able to win over such an acclaimed architect as Richard Meier for this project. It is a very special occasion today to be holding our topping out ceremony and seeing the ideas and plans we have together taking form,” said Christian Völkers, CEO/Founder of Engel & Völkers AG. The design conceived by the architecture practice Richard Meier & Partners Architects LLP New York prevailed over competition from Zaha Hadid Architects Ltd and Foster + Partners. The new development is taking shape in the eastern “Strandkai” area of Hamburg’s HafenCity district. Set on a plot of approx. 3,100 square metres – very close to the Marco-Polo-Tower – it has a total gross floor area above ground of approximately 21,000 square metres. The building complex consists of three main parts: the 15-storey residential tower called “STRANDHAUS by Richard Meier” with 67 exclusive freehold apartments, the new Engel & Völkers headquarters, and 30 rental apartments.
