The “Torre Glòries” formerly known as “Torre Agbar” probably is one of the most iconic buildings in Barcelona. Engel & Völkers Commercial Barcelona have now arranged a lease for 9,000 m² of office space in the tower to Facebook. The US firm plans to set up a control centre in this area and assign supervisory tasks to this so-called “Competence Call Centre” for the control of content relating to “Fake News”. This is a strategy that Facebook has already deployed on a global scale for a number of years now: In Essen, Facebook already operates a control centre for Germany.
Standing at a height of 142 metres, the “Torre Glòries” owned by Merlin Properties since the beginning of 2017 is the city’s third-tallest building. On a total of 34 floors, an area of over 37,000 square metres of utility floor space is available. The office complex is known particularly for its facade imagery, featuring a light show by night. In the area known as “District 22”, Facebook is in the best of company. Companies like eBay, Yahoo and Deutsche Telekom have also settled here.
