Zell am See is a fascinating town in the Austrian region of Pinzgau in the province of Salzburg. It lies on the shores of Lake Zell and is surrounded by the imposing peaks of the Hohe Tauern. The town is a centre of attraction for visitors at any time of year. In summer, a wide range of activities such as hiking, cycling, water sports such as sailing and swimming as well as golf on one of the two 18-hole courses are on offer. In winter, Zell am See is transformed into a renowned ski resort in the European sports region, which is connected to the nearby Kitzsteinhorn glacier ski area. The almost 2000 metre high Schmittenhöhe rises as a proud local mountain and invites you to unforgettable skiing and snowboarding experiences. Zell am See itself impresses with its idyllic old town, which invites you to linger with its charming boutiques, cosy cafés and first-class restaurants. Larger cities such as Salzburg (approx. 80 km), Innsbruck (approx. 145 km) and Munich (approx. 150 km) can be easily reached from Zell am See by car or by train from Zell am See railway station. The nearest international airport is in Salzburg and is about an hour's drive away.
