Bruno Erpicum graduated from the Saint-Luc Institute of Architecture Saint-Luc in Brussels in 1983. Soon, the designer began to take an interest in the pure modernism form of architecture, dating from the 1920s to the 1940s, which rejected the use of any decorative elements. As a result, he travelled abroad in search of this pure form of architecture. During his time spent overseas, Bruno Erpicum discovered the architecture of South Africa, Peru and the United States.
In 1988, he returned to Belgium. More precisely, he began working with François de Montlivault and Marc Timmermans in Brussels. Following their professional collaboration together, the architect decided to create the Bruno Erpicum and Partners Architecture Workshop, known as AABE. The office soon had fourteen architects working in it and dozens of commissions were earned throughout Europe.
The Brussels-based architect, who has been working in his field for 30 years, has now gained an international reputation. He is active today in about fifteen countries. Bruno Erpicum always manages to entice with his architecture because it is so focused on what is essential. For him, the beauty of a building must result from a sense of harmonious proportions as well as perfectly executed details. His style is truly characterised by a refined form of architecture.
Nature is at the heart of the matter for any true architect. Any construction work that is undertaken must be carried out in a way that is in perfect harmony with the environment. This is because, according to the architect, nature offers the best way of putting a certain poetry into a dwelling. The architect plays with a combination of light and texture to give the space concerned a particular atmosphere and to give it life. As such, the houses designed by Erpicum have water features, patios and windows in unlikely places: an array of varied and astonishing ideas to bring light into the structure.
The search for pure simplicity, harmony with nature and an architecture that is full of emotional impact is the credo of Bruno Erpicum.
