In the
Groeningenmuseum in Bruges there is an unique exhibition of the
works of Colard Mansion.
Colard Mansion, where he is born remains a mystery but referring to his name he's probably born in France.
It is know that he travelled to Bruges as a copyist, translator and editor (later on bookpresser) to start a bookstore. Through the years he became a popular aristocrate who's brought printing to a new dimension. In short, he was a manufacturer and distributor of unseen luxurious books. Bruges, the city of Charles The Bold and Hans Memling is in that period a cosmopolic and dynamic capital, famous for her bookproduction. Luxurious books take a central place in the international trade and the culture of Burgundy. It does not take long before Mansion turns into one of the pioneers from bookpressing. He delivers the first printed books ever to royal and noble families. But what happened after 1484 as he fled Bruges ? Nobody managed to solve that mystery. The art exhibition offers an insight of Mansion his beautiful work. An authentic collection of international level.
No entry fee for citizens of Bruges.
The exhibition takes place at the
Groeningenmuseum in Bruges from
1st of march untill the 3th of june.
