The nature reserve Wulgenbroek
Wulgenbroek is a nature reserve from 9 hectare and was bought by Natuurpunt Brugge in 2012. The green zone between Sint-Michiels, Oostkamp and Loppem is on that way a guaranteed no-build zone where the beautiful landscape stays intact. The moist grass-lands serve as a buffer for inudation for Sint-Michiels. A part of the area are grazed by cattle, other parcels are handled by a farmer, who hold his duty by limiting the fertilisatoin which causes a great variety of flora and fauna.
The area has become a home for buzzards and kestrels. The arrangement of water management in summer and winter in combination with the mowing and fertilization strategy results in a flowery grassland with great potential for amphibians, dragonflies and butterlies.
