Montreux is a municipality in the canton of Vaud which covers 33.37 km2 and has about 90 000 inhabitants. The main spoken language is French, but many people also speak English and German.

A dynamic town, Montreux is especially well-known for its jazz festival which takes place over two weeks and has been hugely popular for 50 years. Another major event is the Montreux Comedy Festival, an event which has welcomed many great actors and artists since 1989.

From an educational point of view, Montreux, as well as Lausanne, is the seat of institutes and hotel schools. Montreux is home to the famous école Glion, the Hotel Institute Montreux, and also the Swiss Hotel Management School.
