Brissago: Location and surroundings of this property

The municipality of Brissago lies on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, southwest of Ascona on the border with Italy. Brissago is best known for the Brissago Islands, where there is a botanical garden. Due to the mild climate, about 1500 different plant species can thrive. Among them are palms, bamboo and eucalyptus, as well as kiwi and bananas. The garden was laid out in 1885 by Baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger and extended in 1927 by the next owner of the islands, the millionaire Max Emden. At the end of 2008, the municipality had a population of about 1900.
