Brissago: Location and surroundings of this property

The municipality of Brissago is situated on the northern shore of Lake Maggiore, southwest of Ascona on the border with Italy. Brissago is best known for the Brissago Islands, where there is a botanical garden. Due to the mild climate about 1500 different plant species can flourish. Among them are palms, bamboo and eucalyptus, as well as kiwi and bananas. The garden was laid out in 1885 by the baroness Antoinette de Saint Léger and expanded by the subsequent owner of the islands, the department store millionaire Max Emden, from 1927. At the end of 2008, the municipality had a population of just under 1900.
