Cugnasco: Location and surroundings of this property

Cugnasco-Gerra is a municipality in the district of Navegna, in the Locarno district of the canton of Ticino in Switzerland. It is a merger municipality created on 20 April 2008. In 2005, the merger of the municipality of Cugnasco with the exclave Gerre di Sotto of the city of Locarno and the exclave Gerra Piano of the municipality of Gerra Verzasca to form the municipality of Cugnasco-Gerra failed. One of the reasons for the failure was that the old core area of the municipality of Gerra in the middle Verzasca Valley would have lost most of its population after the separation of its exclave in the Magadino plain and would have had only about 200 inhabitants instead of 1200. On 20 April 2008, the merger of Cugnasco with the entire municipality of Gerra Verzasca was implemented to form the new municipality of Cugnasco-Gerra (although the Locarno Gerre di Sotto is not part of the merger area). In summer 2010, a project was announced to merge the entire area of the Verzasca Valley into one municipality, including the exclave of Cugnasco-Gerra, the area of Gerra Valle, in the merger perimeter.
