You’ve worked with Christian Liaigre and Philippe Starck. How did the experience influence your current working style?

I learnt to work at a fast pace, create a variety of design options and not focus solely on one idea. I attempted to learn how to pick away at different styles instead of following just one. I also learnt how to be curious and explore different aspects of a culture. I decided to break away from the styles I had been taught previously and create from within after working with them. I seek to promote designs that reflect what I am and create from a place deep within.

How does work go down in your studio?

We are a small team of 15 managing around 20 projects around the world, 5 of which are for hotel clients.

How do you work with your team?

Ideas abound once a client describes his/her project. I sketch everything out by hand and go back to see them quickly. The design idea manifests quite fast once I know the client on a more personal and intimate level. Then, I task the project out to a team member, and follow it through every step of the way. No project leaves my office without my approval. We all work closely with one another. I am the happiest man in the world because I don’t work. I live out my passion, a gift from life.

What can you tell us about your work with cars?

I create personalized designs. It’s a new branch at my studio. I see myself as a tailor, I often tailor apartments. I do the same with cars, I tailor their interior design. The “interior” really draws me in, it’s a sensual space, very chic indeed. We never take in the interior details of cars because we never look while driving, but we do feel them. The last point is a crucial aspect for me. My finishing touches are always magnificent and refined, everything is tailored and closely tied back to the client’s personality.

Could you unveil one of your secrets?

I discovered Fabienne L’Hostis work, he creates ceramics using raku, a traditional Japanese method from the 16th century. I often use his designs in my work.
