Interior Trend Colour: Dusty Rose

Pink was a prominent colour in the palettes of many top interior designers this season, but one shade stood out in particular: Dusty rose. You may recognise it as not dissimilar to rose quartz, which formed half of Pantone's blended 'Colour of the Year' for 2016 along with a pastel blue named serenity. Dusty rose is the key to the 'Past Modern' aesthetic, which is being touted as the go-to interior trend for Spring/Summer 2016.

Interior Trend Colour: Dusty RoseFeaturing colourscapes that are more closely associated with the '80s and '90s than the new millennium, they've been reinterpreted with modern flair to create a look that's fresh and contemporary. We've brought together some tips to assist you in incorporating it into your home.

Combine with last season's neutrals

Copper and marble were both big last year, so dedicated followers of interior design trends will be glad to hear that they're remaining in place for SS16. More good news: They look wonderful paired with dusty rose in a retro-inspired aesthetic. A pair of classical armchairs upholstered in dusty rose would be perfect accent pieces in a marble-floored room; add some artwork with simple copper frames to bring the look firmly back into the 21st century.

Team with pared-down wooden furniture

Washed linen bedsheets in dusty rose add a romantic and feminine touch to bedrooms furnished in dark, raw wood. Leave them as the only splash of colour in the room for a modern country look, adding a grey throw and pillows for a hint of contrast. Use contemporary copper accessories as focal points, placing ornate candlesticks, picture-frames, or a reading lamp on the rough-hewn bedside table and mantelpiece.

Add a pop of colour in the entryway

Enliven a minimalist hallway by painting the inside of the front door. A corridor with white floorboards, white walls and a dusty rose door at the end creates an enchanting picture and allows you to introduce the trend without renovating a whole room. Dark wood is a fantastic contrast to white wood and dusty rose, so consider adding some storage to the hall area too: for example, some big rattan boxes. These are a fine nod to dusty rose's country credentials, while also offering the perfect place to store shoes and other sundries.

Team with other pastels

Take inspiration from the other half of Pantone's Colour of the Year, a pastel blue shade. The company recommends pairing the two for a soothing effect, so where better to place them than the home office? Paint the walls rose and add a statement desk in pastel blue. Anchor them with dark wooden floors, introducing metallic accessories in copper or yellow gold to avoid an overly rustic impression. Complete the effect with minimalist desk-lamps and wire-frame chairs.
