Of this sum, companies hold more than 70%, or roughly 2.1 trillion euros. Such a high rate is rather unusual in other countries. In the USA or Asia, for example, ownership rates at 20 – 30% are much lower. In 2015, German companies reacted to this trend by increasing sales volumes. Additionally, steadily rising market prices facilitate the opportunity for companies to free up liquidity for their core business through sales.
