Its name comes from the old Royal Palace, the residence of the kings of Valencia during the Islamic domination. This name comes from the Arabic "riyadh" or "garden" and should not be confused with the actual term, derived from the king.

Consolidation begins from the Regional Exhibition of 1909 and throughout the twentieth century when the current is taking shape. Currently, proximity to the city center, along with hospitals and schools that equip the area, make this point one of the most attractive in the city.

Benimaclet, by contrast, is a much more recent district. It was an independent municipality until 1878, which became district of the city, being in 1972 when he joined the city and district.

Currently, the Benimaclet district includes the old village and recently urbanized areas.
