Where is Cadaques?
Cadaqués is located on the peninsula of Cabo de Creus in the north of the Costa Brava and is one of the most famous villages of the province of Girona.Its rocky coastline, its marvelous beaches, secluded bays and the incredible landscape of the "Cap de Creus" natural park make this ancient fishing village one of the most important places of attraction in the north of Spain. The Mediterranean-influenced town in the bay of the Bahía de Cadaqués has attracted internationally renowned painters and artists, such as Salvador Dali, for decades, and still has a wide range of cultural activities, as witnessed by its numerous museums and art galleries. In addition, Cadaques offers both shops for the daily needs as well as small boutiques, which invite to stroll through the small streets of the place. International restaurants and bars offer the locals nightly meeting places and first class food.
How to get to Cadaques?
By plane: There are two airports that offer travel to Cadaques. Barcelona El Prat and the small Ryanair airport in Girona. From there you can go by car, bus and or train to Cadaques as described below.
By train: There is no direct train connection to Cadaqués, but you can take the first part of your journey by train. From Barcelona Sants you can take the AVE express train approximately 55 minutes to Figueres Vilafant. From there, it is about 45 minutes by car to the sleepy city of Cadaques, which can be reached either by car or by bus.
By bus: Sarfa operates daily service from Barcelona to Cadaques. The timetable changes according to the season. The buses run from the North Station near the Arc de Triomf (there is also a subway station) which is also only a few minutes away from the center of the city (about 35 minutes on foot). Caution outside the holiday season! The timetable is significantly reduced and you have to wait about 7 hours between buses. This is especially important when you leave Cadaqués and catch a plane ... In this case it is sometimes worth taking a taxi to Roses and taking another bus there.
By boat: If you are already nearby, it is also possible to take a ferry from the port of the nearby town of Roses. During the season they drive several times aday.
By car: Getting around by car is easy and every navigation system will show you the fastest way. Take the highway to Figueres and follow the signs for Cadaques. Once you come into the village, you will find a big parking lot to pay, which is worthwhile in the main season, otherwise it would be difficult to park your car. Outside the season, it is worth driving around the village and looking for a free parking space.
