5 common mistakes in home decoration

Home decoration and interior design are exciting disciplines. However, we can't just choose anything for our house even if we want to put our personal stamp on it. In fact, there are many who, due to their lack of knowledge, end up committing blunders. This is why we will explain the most common mistakes in home redecoration so you don't end up making the same errors.

1. Not making the most of the space

Planning is key in decoration. And, within it, taking action and knowing what furniture can be placed where is important. Also keep in mind the location of windows, plugs, radiators and, of course, habits that are going to affect where you put the new furniture. By considering these factors, you will make your home more functional.

2. Using intense colours

Painting a wall in a rich colour can be fine, but if you overdo this in every room, it will eventually cause eye strain. There are many attractive options that are much more discreet such as photo murals, wallpapers, backlit panels or large format photographs. These are customisation elements that give character to the decor.

3. Too bright or dim lighting

Light is one thing. Illuminate, quite another. For example, a single lamp on the ceiling creates an 'effect scenario' which is fine for storage, but not for the living room. Therefore, unless it is a very small room, ideally put several lights strategically to help create the atmosphere you want and combine them with accessories such as table lamps and candles. And, of course, make the most of natural light.

4. Not hiding the wires

Maybe you love to enjoy a movie on your Blu-ray DVD player and the 40-inch TV. You can also enjoy playing on the game console with your children or install audio equipment with 8 speakers to create a spectacular sound effect. All this is great, but if you don't hide the cables, all the decoration in your living room will eventually get damaged.

5. Combine wrong styles

Among combining styles and creating a decorative chaos there are rules to follow. you may like a minimalist chair, a table and a vintage retro closet, but we assure you that they are not a good option for combining the three elements in one space.

The above may seem very obvious, but these 5 mistakes are extremely common in the world of interior design. Keep them in mind the next time you are decorating your home so you can end up enjoying functional spaces that are full of warmth and energy.
