5 kitchen design trends for 2017

If you have decided to renovate your kitchen in 2017, you should consider the new design trends that maximise space and turn the kitchen into more than a place for cooking and eating. At present, the kitchen is conceived as a space that's more integrated in daily life, a multifunctional room in which decoration takes on a predominant role.

Despite the many colour trends and different combinations, this year the colour white will remain the primary colour for kitchens. The cleanliness, spaciousness and the order this colour transmits, especially in confined spaces, make it the best choice. The colour white also allows excellent combinations, whether you use natural woods or stones such as granite. After all, we are speaking of a colour that never goes out of style and shares traits with many decorative styles such as Nordic.

The kitchens with an island, especially in the centre of the room, are not only functional and able to extend the useful space, but they also continue to be a rising trend. Some recent surveys tell us that more than 70 per cent of kitchen buyers want to have a central island, while half of those customers consider it essential. The available space is decisive and placing the island in the centre is a good option as it is not in the way and is accessible from all sides. If we have a few cabinets, we can use them as storage and with a few additional seats, such as a breakfast bar, the lack of space in the dining room can be filled.

Another key to the modern decor of kitchens and spaces in general is lighting. Kitchens with natural light are especially appreciated, but you can also add extra lighting. On top of the islands, lights are essential as your work surface needs as much direct light as possible. The warm and indirect lighting with furniture illuminated from the inside, is also a protagonist and very useful from a functional and decorative point of view.

Regardless of the furniture colour, kitchens with brighter tiles is another trend on the rise. These tiles can bring a very personal touch with a digitally stamped design that breaks the monotony of the prevailing white. Something similar can also be done with floors and walls as they are attractive and easy to clean, whether they are tiled or decorated with stickers.

For many years to come, retro and vintage trends will always find their place in the kitchen decorations. The light and bright tones, contrasted with natural wood, are complemented with doors as well as lights and industrial-style accessories. The exposed bricks, the steel-finish appliances and other similar details complement this style.
