All about Blue Monday and how to overcome it

You may have heard about Blue Monday or at least it might sound familiar to you. In this article, we will show you some information based on its meaning and the reason for its existence.
As they say, it is the most depressing day of the year, and it is always related to the third Monday in January. This year, it will be on January 21st and we must be prepared to face this day with optimism.
A British researcher came to the conclusion that only 21st of January and no other date was the most depressing day of the year because of several key factors. In fact, there is no scientific evidence to prove it, although many people have taken this approach as logical.
Everything depends on a formula based on a series of important variables that are related to the day and date. We start from the basis that Monday is for some the most deplorable day of the week. We have left behind the weekend and started a hard day's work, with five or six more days left for the next break.

Does it already sound scary? Well, there's more. The third Monday in January is too early to get paid, although we have already spent much of the month's salary because of Christmas and the January sales. Time is not on our side and the cold weather hits the streets with force with colds and flu proliferating.
In the formula of Blue Monday, "Lunes Triste" in Spanish, there is also the New Year's resolution and how we have failed miserably in it. Motivation, therefore, is not at its best, it is rather questionable.

Where does the term come from and what is its history?

The term came into being in 2005, when a psychologist called, Cliff Arnall, worked on the formula we talked about earlier to find the worst day of the year. His conclusions, which we have also alluded to, ended with the third Monday of January as the worst day of the year. Since then, it has been "celebrated" every year in a very special way. It means that each person has to look for a motivation that makes the day more positive.
This formula has been widely criticised, although when we think about it, we may find out the reason. Many families have not finished recovering emotionally or financially. The truth is that overindulging during Christmas often takes its toll. In addition, in most places the weather is cold so it becomes more and more complicated.

Cliff was the scientist who came to the conclusion that this and no other date should be the fateful day. Frustration, discouragement, demotivation and confusion have happened on that day of the year and it was necessary to alert people in some way so that they are prepared for it.

There is very little time left until this day arrives, but when it does you can only think about how to fight it. There are many inspiring things that can be very effective, from painting your lips with an intense red lipstick to taking a walk with your partner so that love exerts its power and takes over.

What is the best way to overcome it?

It has been wondered by many on how to overcome Blue Monday but there is no doubt that there is some truth in Blue Monday. The phenomenon has become the living image of all those who think of that day as the most unfortunate of the year. In these cases you can only do one thing, resort to the power of the mind and do everything possible to prevent it from falling deep in your mind.
If we believe that it is going to be a horrible day, our brain will keep telling us that it will be. The course of action that we should take with full force is to think positively in order to stop the negative thoughts about how terrible our day is going to be and how much we are going to hate it.

This "prophecy" that we ourselves have self-fulfilled, is nothing more than something suggestive to pay attention to certain negative aspects that are very likely to occur in our day to day life, without showing as much importance as now. Knowing that Monday January 21st is the most depressing day of 2019 is not important. Therefore, we must overcome it and make it a better day.
Social networks do their job well. They are able to lift spirits through funny pictures that will at least help bring a smile to your face. Even some brands make a greater effort by taking advantage of this date to offer their most loyal customers many great discounts.
Generally Blue Monday refers to the third Monday in January, although it can also be the second or fourth. The first time the most depressing day of the year was announced was in a press release from the Sky Travel agency, on January 24th, 2005. Since then, the controversial date has been proliferating, taking with it some poor unhappy people, who have made that day the worst by far.
Today, the idea of many is to celebrate the day of sorrow as a form of reinvindication. If we think about it carefully, celebrating sadness does not seem so far-fetched when the purpose is to do a mental exercise to take it in the best possible way.

Exemplary solutions

• Sleep well the night before and wake up feeling well rested. It is important that you get up a little earlier than usual to enjoy a good breakfast, read the daily paper and make your way to the office more enjoyable and quiet.
• Wear your favourite clothes with pride. You can even wear something new and feel good. It's a good way to face Blue Monday.
• First of all it is important to identify the problem. The sooner you know your concerns, the sooner you will look for solutions to try to change the situation in a positive way.
• Mondays usually generate a lot of stress because we usually have a lot of pending tasks. To avoid this burden, it is preferable to try to finish as many jobs as possible on the previous Friday.

• You can create a list to face the great challenges of this dreaded Monday. It is even possible to write about several things that you would like to do during that day. In that way, positivity and imagination will also be enforced.

• Of course it is not compulsory, but you have to take advantage of your free time on this cursed Monday and spend it in the best possible way.
