Since its inception and arrival in Madrid, Engel & Völkers has shown a strong commitment to the world of sports. In fact, it has not missed the opportunity to sponsor the most exclusive events that have been held nationwide including: the Madrid Horse Week, the Sándor Pádel Tournament, the Sandra Ibarra Foundation, the Polo Challenge Negrita Cup, the Davis Cup, the Casas Novas International Jumping Competition, the Local Golf and paddle tournaments, and the International Polo Tournament at the Santa María Polo Club of Sotogrande, to name some of the few.
The Madrid Masters began as a tennis tournament that was held annually in Madrid (Spain), in the Madrid Arena pavilion (from 2002 to 2008).
Today, this event is part of the ATP World Tour Masters 1000 of the ATP men's circuit, being the fourth to be played in the season; and the WTA Premier Mandatory series in the women's professional circuit, and its official name is Mutua Madrid Open, which will be played at the Caja Mágica pavilion.
The women's tournament was integrated into the men's in 2009, and together with the Indian Wells, Miami and Beijing, it has become one of the most important tournaments after the Grand Slam, thus encouraging the participation of high ranking players. As the other three Premier Events in this category are hard court tournaments, Madrid is the most important for clay court after the Grand Slam.
The tennis player who has won the most matches is the Spaniard, Rafael Nadal, with 5 wins followed by Roger Federer from Switzerland with 3 titles.
