What should you not do in a job interview?

In a labour market as competitive as today's, it pays to make the most of job opportunities. A job interview is one of those great opportunities in which, within just a few minutes, you can get employed. It is, therefore, important not to make mistakes.

It is true that every person has their own strategies in finding work. The prospective employers want us to act with cordiality and try to demonstrate our skills, knowledge and experiences in the way we know best. But apart from this, there are a number of attitudes that we must avoid at all costs in order to make a good impression.

- In a labour market as competitive as today's, it pays to make the most of job opportunities. A job interview is one of those great opportunities in which, within just a few minutes, you can get employed. It is, therefore, important not to make mistakes.

- It is true that every person has their own strategies in finding work. The prospective employers want us to act with cordiality and try to demonstrate our skills, knowledge and experiences in the way we know best. But apart from this, there are a number of attitudes that we must avoid at all costs in order to make a good impression.

- Being late for a job interview does not say anything good about the candidate and is a very negative way to start the meeting. It is best to be there five to ten minutes before the appointment.

- Causing an initial bad impression, especially when clothing is concerned, is also a serious problem. You should find out what the company policy is with regards to the dress code before attending the interview. In any case, you must always be dressed smart.

- You must always be prepared for the interview by having done enough research about the company beforehand. It is essential to have knowledge of its recent activities and the latest information related to the organisation.

- Do not focus on salary issues. The interview is not the time to consult about money. It can give a bad image of you.

- Show nervousness or anxiety. All those nail-biting gestures, nervous movements, and so on can convey a very negative image to the interviewer.

- Show an attitude of reluctance or apathy. The job interview is a unique opportunity and it is a great mistake not to transmit positivity and enthusiasm, all with a smile of course.

- Lying or falsifying data. Interviewers have accumulated enough experience in their work to detect such attempts. The distrust generated by the people who lie disqualifies them immediately.

- Criticise your bosses and / or colleagues from previous jobs. If there has been any kind of disagreement, it must be explained objectively and positively, without leading to arguements or, even worse, insults.
