Seafood and sailing in Puerto Alcudia

Puerto Alcudia on Mallorca’s northern coast, is famous for its clear, shallow waters and long sandy beaches. The area stretches from the port that serves the town of Alcudia and along 10km of coastline to Can Picafort. Playa de Alcudia is one of the longest natural sandy beaches on the island. Here, Engel & Völkers Mallorca North have wide range of luxury sea view and spacious second line apartments and holiday villas both for sale and rent, many of which overlook the glorious bay of Alcudia.

Puerto Alcudia is one of the biggest resorts on this stretch of coast and includes an attractive traditional fishing harbour, which has a number of bars and restaurants, as well as Alcudia Mar Cluba glamorous sporting marina that can accommodate yachts of up to 30m in length. It’s the main destination for night life in the north of Mallorca with a number of bars and clubs including karaoke and live music venues.

Just a short distance from the port, is a high quality residential area of Alcanada, where we have a selection of villas, houses and apartments for sale and rent, within easy distance the beautiful and quiet Alcanada Beach. Once just farmland, this attractive area overlooks a 19th century lighthouse and is close to the cultural centre at Sa Bassa Blanca

Those looking for a more off-the-beaten track holiday home destination will opt to buy a house here which offers easy access to Alcanada Golf Club –widely considered to be one of the finest places to play golf on the island.

Celebrating the start of spring in Mallorca

Every April the town hosts La Fira Nautica y de la Sepia. A festival of sailing and gastronomy, it traditionally marks the start of good weather and the arrival of spring. Now in its 13th year, the festival takes place over three days from April 13 to 15 and celebrates both the towns nautical strengths and culinary passion for sepia, or cuttlefish.

Much of the action takes place on the paseo maritimo that runs from the marina and along behind the beaches, where Engel & Völkers have apartments and villas which range in size and price to rent and buy. Visitors with an interest in all things nautical should head to the exhibitions and demonstrations put on by dozens of exhibitors positioned around Alcudia’s sporting marina at the end of the port. Events include boat shows, marine rescue displays, radio-controlled boats and many other different aspects of sailing.

Those with more of a leaning towards food will head towards the commercial port end of the town. This is a relatively large marina which serves as a point of arrival and departure not only for local boat trips but also the ferry service to the historic town of Ciutadella in Menorca where Engel & Völkers are opening up an office this summer. There, local restaurants, street stalls and even a special marquee will be filled with music and food. Over 30 restaurants take part in the weekend showing off their skills at preparing sepia—including delicious treats such as croquetas, sepia a la romana, fried in breadcrumbs as well as in paella, as a topping for pizza and in many other interesting and unusual forms.

At the same time, there’s a programme of music, children’s entertainment for all ages and a craft market which shows of local talents and skills. Late night DJs and bands usually play in the marquee from 9pm on both Friday and Saturday evenings.

Away from the action, there’s the chance to explore the ecologically rich S’Albufera park – a  1708 hectares wetland environment, home to scores of bird species, that is crossed by a network of paths (with plenty of bikes are available to rent).
