The Marbella International Cup was launched in 2017 to further increase the standing and the prestige of golf on the Costa del Sol. It aimed to provide an even keener competitive edge for golf lovers on a coast with an excellent array of clubs in stunning surroundings, and opportunities in realestate to match (and here, your international and local experts Engel & Völkers Marbella are always ready to help).
The tournament attracts top players from around Europe to compete on the best courses in this part of Spain, with the hope that they'll return, and will spread the word among other golfers. Its full title is Circuito Marbella International Cup, and its unique set-up of competitions spread out by date and place brings more professionals to the area, and where they play, amateurs and fans will follow. Prize awards include a cup, and trophies in various categories.
On 27 July 2019, the tournament and the crowds will settle on El Paraíso Golf, a traditional course designed in 1973 by Gary Player, the South African player considered to be one of the best golfers ever. The club sits in the tranquil valley called El Paraíso, with La Concha Mountain behind it, and is part of a well-established community. Concha is Spanish for shell, and it's so-called for obvious reasons. As the tallest mountain in the Sierra Blanca range, it makes for an imposing background, together with the adjacent Sierra de las Nieves National Park in all its beauty. To further increase the beauty of the venue's surroundings, the blue Mediterranean sparkles in the other direction.
The location has one of the best layouts for championships around the region, and its high reputation is a magnet for players, especially as it's considered to be one of the Costa's most welcoming environments. The club, which also hosts other tournaments during the year, has an eighteen-hole course, and there are also hard-courts for tennis, and facilities for lawn bowls. The second competition will also take place at El Paraíso in early August, while the third switches to Cabopino later that month.
El Paraíso is Spanish for paradise, and it certainly lives up to its name. Situated about ten minutes by car from the centre of town, in the municipality of Estepona, this prestigious urbanisation of flats and villas, together with a four-star hotel, provides all amenities, including financial, health and commercial essentials. The development of this prime realestate is carefully controlled, making it ideal for investors, and of course, golfers.
Estepona itself still retains its charm as a pretty coastal village, with an old town of narrow winding streets, and a good choice of restaurants, bars and shops. The surrounding area offers ample opportunities for investors in realestate, or anyone wanting a second home, and is well worth a search. Consult a local estate agent, such as market leaders Engel & Völkers, who have unrivalled local knowledge of Marbella and the surrounding area, to be sure of getting the best deal.
