Torrevieja is a seaside city and center of tourism in the south of the province of Alicante, located on the Costa Blanca, in south-eastern Spain. Torrevieja is situated to 41 km away from Alicante to the north, 23 km from Elche to the northwest, and 53 km from Murcia in the southeast. It was originally a salt-mining and fishing village as it is located between the sea and two large salt lakes (Las Lagunas de La Mata-Torrevieja), which give Torrevieja a healthy micro climate. This protected Natural Park is one of the most important wetlands of Valencia and one of the most important salt farms in Europe. It has 20 km of coastline containing six large beaches - La Mata, Cabo Cervera, Los Locos, El Cura, Los Náufragos and Ferris - and about 20 coves with an abundance of cliffs. This city offers a wide range of shopping opportunities. It contains about 2,500 shops.
